The majority of the work done by the mechanic relates to repairs, maintenance and operation of HVAC and Building Automation Systems, having responsibilities for purchasing some equipment, assembly of furniture and use of large snow removal equipment as outlined below. The position will be required to be on-call on a rotating schedule to assist with emergencies. The mechanic engages in a high degree of customer service.
Maintenance Mechanic Job Responsibilities:
- Operate and perform minor maintenance on boilers and chillers, air handlers and similar energy utilizing equipment so as to maximize energy efficiency.
- Schedule, operate and monitor Building Automation Systems (BAS) to meet college expectations for indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
- Use BAS to identify and troubleshoot problems and to optimize building performance.
- Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems so as to maximize reliability.
- Respond to maintenance requests both scheduled and non-scheduled or emergency
- Perform routine, periodic inspection and testing of building life-safety systems including fire
alarms, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers.
Maintenance Mechanic Job Requirements:
- Associate Degree and two years recent work experience in any combination of HVAC and
facilities maintenance with an emphasis in energy management and operation of building
automation systems OR Seven years recent work experience in any combination of HVAC and facilities maintenance with an emphasis in energy management and operation of building automation systems. - Experience or course work operating, maintaining, troubleshooting or repairing:

Building Automation (preferred/desired) - Experience in using floor buffers and other mechanical cleaning equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written format; read, understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to operate a personal computer to access web-based work order system, BAS and email.
- Ability to obtain or complete forklift training certifications.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to maintain schedules; perform the physical requirements for the position including climbing ladders, bending, kneeling, reaching, and standing for long periods of time; lift and carry boxes, tools, equipment and materials.
